On Saturday morning, 17 people were killed when a bus overflowed into a pond in Bangladesh. 37 injured passengers were hospitalised. The motorway where the accident took place was closed to traffic.

About 17 people were killed and more than a dozen injured when a bus plunged into a roadside pond in Bangladesh on Saturday. Among the dead were seven children and five women.

The bus driver lost control of the steering wheel while giving way to an auto-rickshaw and fell into the pond at around 9:55 a.m. on Saturday morning, the police station in-charge said.

At least 37 passengers were injured of the bus carrying more than 60 passengers and taken to the district hospital.

The civil surgeon of the area said the bodies of 13 people were recovered from the bus and 4 people died in hospital.

After the incident, the motorway where the accident took place was closed to traffic while hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides.
