Soviet symbol on Ukraine's 'motherland' to be removed

The removal of the Soviet emblem on the shield of the 'Motherland Statue' in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, which has become one of the symbols of the country, has begun. This is seen as the most important step towards the 'de-Russianization' of Ukraine.

On Sunday, the removal of the Soviet emblem on the shield used by the female figure on the 'Motherland Statue' in Kyiv, which has become one of the symbols of Ukraine, began.

The symbol of the sickle and slant will be replaced with the Trident, one of Ukraine's national symbols and part of the country's coat of arms. The replacement is scheduled to be completed on August 24, Ukraine's Independence Day.

This is seen as an important step towards 'de-Russianization' and 'de-Sovietization'.

Preparations for the removal of the Soviet emblem began at the beginning of the week.

The museum's director said on Saturday that the 102-meter-high monument, weighing 500 metric tons, is officially proposed to be renamed 'Mother Ukraine'
