Tomasz Praga, commander of the Polish Border Guard, has asked for a thousand soldiers to be deployed on the border with Belarus to prevent unauthorized crossings.
The Polish Border Guard has asked the Interior Ministry to deploy one thousand personnel to the border with Belarus.
Polish Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Wasik asked Tomasz Praga, commander of the Border Guard, to deploy a thousand soldiers to neighboring countries to prevent illegal crossings on the border with Belarus.
Praga stated that the number of illegal crossings from Belarus last year was 16 thousand, while the number increased to 19 thousand in the first 8 months of this year.
Relations between Poland and Belarus were strained when the Minsk government allowed members of the mercenary group Wagner into the country. Wagner members were then deployed on the Polish border.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the deployment of Wagner members on their border was aimed at weakening NATO's eastern front.
Poland had electrified its border with Belarus due to illegal crossings and the presence of Wagner forces.
