A migrant boat trying to reach the United Kingdom (UK) from Francecapsized in the English Channel, Ihlas News Agency reported.

In a written statement made by the French Channel and North Sea Maritime Administration, it was stated that more than 50 people were rescued and 6 people lost their lives. The British Coast Guard also stated that personnel were sent to support the rescue efforts.

Search and rescue operations continue with the participation of 5 French ships, 2 British ships, and 1 helicopter following the incident off Cap Gris Nez in northern France.

Strong currents in the English Channel between France and the UK, one of the world's busiest shipping routes, make passage dangerous for small boats.
