Following the "provocative" attacks on the Holy Quran in Sweden, which caused reactions in the Muslim world, the United Kingdom (UK) warned its citizens who will visit the Scandinavian country.
The British Foreign Office, which updated its travel warning for Sweden, pointed out that the Swedish authorities had foiled some terrorist attack plans and made some arrests.
"You should be vigilant during this time," the ministry said in a statement, adding that "terrorists will try to carry out attacks in Sweden," including in places visited by foreigners.
Commenting on the change in the UK's travel warning, Swedish National Security Advisor Henrik Landerholm stated that the possibility of a terrorist attack in Sweden has increased since the burning of the Holy Quran.
Landerholm also drew attention to the reactions in Muslim countries to the hate attack on the Quran, noting that these reactions also increase the risk of attacks.
In Sweden, attacks on the Holy Quran are allowed by the authorities because they are considered within the scope of "freedom of expression".
The US administration had also warned of the possibility of terrorist attacks in Sweden.
