Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was on a working visit to Sweden at the time of the attack, posted on social media.
"A Russian missile hit Chernihiv, right in the center of the city. A square, a university, a theater. An ordinary Saturday that Russia has turned into a day of pain and loss. There are dead and wounded. My condolences to those who lost loved ones,” Zelenskyy said.
“Let's do more to unite the world against Russian terror. Russia must lose this war for life to win,” he added.
