Elections in Ukraine could be held in 2024 if Western states provide Ukraine with the necessary financial and logistical support, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, Ihlas News Agency reported.
In addition, Zelenskyy said that elections in Ukraine could cost about 135 million dollars.
Following the war launched by Russia on February 24, 2022, the elections planned to be held in Ukraine could not be held. In a statement to the local press, the Ukrainian President referred to the elections that could not be held due to the war.
Reminding the elections held by the United States (US) during the Second World War, Zelenskyy stated that the elections in Ukraine could be held in 2024 if Western states provide financial and logistical support.
Adding that the elections are not possible due to the martial law in the country, the President of Ukraine emphasized that the elections can be held immediately if the parliament is ready. Stating that the financial aid provided for weapons will not be used for the realization of the elections, Zelenskyy said that he hopes that the US and the European Union will provide financial aid for the elections.
"We must bring observers to the border so we can hold a legitimate election. We protect our territory and our democracy. That is why people are talking about elections. This is a political process and cannot be blocked," Zelenskyy said.
