In Japan, the decision was taken to discharge radioactive waste water from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean. Despite all the reactions, Japan started to discharge the wastewater into the Pacific Ocean on August 24. China, the leading actor in the reactions, implemented a ban on seafood imports. After the ban, Japan decided to support the fishing sector by providing additional financing.

Japan will provide about 20.7 billion yen in additional financing to affected fishermen after China banned imports of Japanese seafood following the evacuation of radioactive wastewater in Fukushima, Anadolu Agency reported.

Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant was damaged by the earthquake in Japan in 2011. A decision was recently taken for the wastewater, which was on the agenda for discharge due to radioactive leakage.

CHINA IMPOSED EMBARGO

The Japanese government is increasing its support for fishermen who suffered loss of income and reputation after the discharge of processed wastewater accumulated at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant into the sea. Accordingly, financial support will be strengthened against the seafood import ban imposed by China after the discharge of radioactive wastewater accumulated at the nuclear power plant into the sea.

FOUND TO BE 'NEGLIGIBLE'

The discharge of radioactive wastewater accumulated at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean began on August 24. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concluded in its report after examining the plant that the discharge plan was in line with safety standards and that the harm to people and the environment was "negligible".

CAUSED REACTIONS

The plan, which aims to discharge a total of 31 thousand 200 tonnes of radioactive wastewater by March 2024, causes the reaction of fishermen and environmental protection activists living in the region as well as neighboring countries, especially China.

The tsunami caused by the 9-magnitude earthquake in March 2011 caused damage to 3 of the 4 nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, and the area around the plant was declared an "evacuation zone" due to radioactive fallout.
