The positions of the Azerbaijani army on the route of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Ordubad region were shelled by units of the Armenian army, the Azerbaijan Defence Ministry said in a statement.

In the statement of the Ministry, it was noted that the fire was immediately responded to by the Azerbaijani army units. It was stated that there was no loss of life on the Azerbaijani side in the clash.

In addition to this, it was stated that the Armenian armed groups in the region where the Russian peacekeeping force was temporarily deployed tried to dig new trenches around 2 p.m. local time in order to approach the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the direction of Agdam. It was reported that the work was prevented as a result of the measures taken by the units of the Azerbaijani army.

PASHINIAN INCREASES TENSION

Tensions between Baku and Yerevan increased after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian issued a message on Saturday congratulating the people of the region on the anniversary of the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh region's declaration of independence.

The Azerbaijani army started intensive military deployment to the border region due to the provocations of Armenian troops. Armenia, on the other hand, announced that it would conduct joint exercises with the US, and reportedly deployed artillery and armored units to the border.

ZANGEZUR CORRIDOR MESSAGE

"Azerbaijan will open the Zangezur corridor on its own, if necessary, despite Armenia," Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

Moreover, flights to Azerbaijan are reminiscent of the period before the Karabakh war in 2020. A large number of military aircraft from Israel and Türkiye are organizing flights to Baku. In the Karabakh war, Azerbaijan was given intensive military support with the air corridor provided by Türkiye and Israel.
