Dr. Thomas Waite, the United Kingdom(UK) government's deputy health advisor, has called on those in line for vaccination in the UK to receive the free flu vaccine or COVID-19 vaccine. He emphasized That COVID 'will continue to surprise.' Waite stated that COVID-19 still does not exhibit seasonal behavior and follows a more unpredictable course than other winter diseases.

Last week, COVID cases in England reached their highest rate of increase in the summer months, with a 14 percent weekly rise. However, experts noted that this increase does not necessarily mean that the seasonal wave expected in the autumn months has begun. According to government data, approximately 25 thousand people were prevented from being admitted to hospitals in England last year thanks to the flu vaccine.

On the other hand, the data also reveals that the flu caused 14 thousand extra deaths last winter, while COVID-19 caused over ten thousand additional deaths in the country during the same period. In epidemics, the concept of additional or extra deaths describes deaths that occur beyond the expected level under normal conditions. This is calculated by comparing death averages from previous years and the expected annual increases.
