Turkiye Diyanet Foundation is behind the project.

Huseyin Senturk, an engineer involved in the mosque’s construction, said Friday: "People come and tell us how happy they are with the [construction of the] mosque."

Senturk said the construction was on schedule, adding that they were these days trying to complete the underground part of the project, which includes a car park, conference hall and offices.

The Namazgah Mosque will have the capacity to host thousands of people over 10,000 square meters of area. It will also contain a library and an exhibition hall. A "co-existence museum" is also being planned in the mosque.

The mosque’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year.
