WFP STOPS HUMANITARIAN WORK

"We urge all parties in Sudan to respect the impartiality of humanitarian workers in Sudan, whose role is to assist all parties in this crisis," the WFP said in a statement.

Announcing the temporary suspension of operations in Sudan, WFP said, "WFP had to temporarily cease operations while reviewing the security situation. The continued violence has a serious impact on our business and the people we serve. We urge you to reach an agreement that will allow"

Volker Perthes, the UN's special envoy in Sudan, said in a statement: "Civilians and humanitarian workers are not targets. Also, the news that UN and other humanitarian facilities were hit by bullets and that UN and other humanitarian facilities were looted in various parts of Darfur was extremely shocking to me.
