Tokyo hosts Turkish cuisine on 100th Turkish-Japanese diplomatic anniversary

To celebrate 100 years of friendship between Türkiye and Japan, the Turkish Embassy in Tokyo is hosting "Turkish Cuisine Days" at the Imperial Hotel. This event is part of a series of cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries.

Bayram Ozrek, president of the Turkish Federation of Chefs and Chefs (TASFED), told Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent that this is their first visit to Tokyo for the first and their goal is to promote Turkish cuisine.

Highlighting the event's significance, Ozrek mentioned the high-level participation and the positive reception of Turkish dishes. "We presented a well-received menu," he said. "We hope this continues. It's an honor to showcase Turkish cuisine on a global stage."

Highlighting a focus on classic Turkish dishes, Ozrek said they presented a selection of 25 dishes, including soups, main courses, appetizers, snacks, desserts, and salads, which were well-received by the audience.

Ozrek said, "Japanese cuisine is very special in its own way. They especially consume seafood well and cook them with beautiful techniques. We want our breakfast culture to be introduced and presented to Japanese cuisine and Japanese restaurants."

TASFED Secretary General Emre Oruc noted the Japanese chefs' admiration while learning traditional Turkish dishes in the kitchen. He particularly highlighted their strong interest in making Ramadan pita and bagels.

Yunus Gunduz, a chef from the Turkish Culinary National Team, explained their mission in Tokyo: to introduce and collaborate with Japanese chefs in preparing authentic Turkish local dishes.

Turkish Cuisine Days will continue until April 30.
