Turkish world traveler's collection awaits exhibition in Bursa

A remarkable collection amassed by the Turkish collector Ahmet Erdonmez, featuring cultural artifacts from over 30 countries, is poised for exhibition.

The remarkably tiny Bible has become a focal point of global curiosity.

The collection includes diverse cultural items such as traditional clothing, handwritten books, and souvenir objects reflecting the heritage of various nations.

Among these, a Bible, smaller than a fingernail, stands out for its unique size and the intrigue it has sparked.

Erdonmez shared that this miniaturized Bible, lacking historical value but remarkable for its diminutive size, was a gift received during his travels in Germany.

Erdonmez, who also represents the European Museum Academy in Türkiye, expressed his commitment to cultural exchange and the importance of such gatherings. His attendance at museum conferences across Europe not only benefits Türkiye but also enriches his collection.

A noteworthy item in his collection is a bag embroidered with the image of the historic Haydarpasa Train Station in Istanbul, dated 1333, according to the Islamic calendar.

Erdonmez stressed the significance of Haydarpasa, both for Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire, as a major transportation hub.

This piece, acquired from an antique dealer, is esteemed for its historical relevance.

Looking to the future, Erdonmez aspires to establish a museum where he can exhibit his extensive collection.

He emphasized the importance of making collections accessible to the public, stating: "If keeping these items only for myself does not serve any societal benefit, then it holds no meaning."

His vision extends to creating a research library and a cultural center where the public can explore and appreciate diverse cultural and artistic values and how countries around the world translate their cultures into souvenir items.
