Rome celebrates 2,777th anniversary of its foundation

To celebrate the capital's 2,777th birthday, the Historic Rome Group (Gruppo Romano Storico), a group dedicated to promoting Rome's historical and cultural treasures, organized a march through the city center. Participants dressed as soldiers, legionnaires, senators, and other figures from the Roman Empire.

The march started from Circo Massimo, the hippodrome area in the center of the historic city, passing through important points such as Venice Square, Fori Imperiale Boulevard and the ancient arena Colosseum, which are located in the ancient Roman city today, and ended again in the Circo Massimo area.

At the Circo Massimo, visual shows were organized about the foundation of Rome, its development throughout history and Roman life in antiquity.

The walk and performances captivated both Romans and tourists, who eagerly snapped photos.

According to legend, Roman soldier, historian and writer Varrone states that Romulus founded the city on April 21, 753 B.C., based on the astrological calculations of his friend Lucio Taruzio.
