Within the scope of the Turkish-Hungarian Year of Culture, 50 events were organized in the first 4 months

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Hungary, 50 events were organized in the first 4 months under the leadership of the Embassy of Türkiye in Budapest.

On the occasion of the “2024 Turkish-Hungarian Year of Culture” announced within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the goal of “100 Events in the 100th Year” is carried out with the theme of “A Century of Friendship and Cooperation.”

In this context, cultural diplomacy activities spread throughout the year in different cities of Hungary under the coordination of the Embassy of Türkiye in Budapest are carried out with significant contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and the Maarif Foundation.

50 events reached more than 70,000 people

In the first four months of the year, 50 events organized in four different cities of Hungary to promote Turkish culture, art and cuisine reached more than 70,000 people.

Thanks to various events such as concerts, theater, exhibitions, conferences and talks in the capital Budapest, as well as in Veszprem, Szeged and Tokaj, organizers have reached the halfway point of the 100 event goal by the end of April.

Among the events, large-scale productions such as “Devlet Ana” staged by the General Directorate of State Theatres and “Guldestan” staged by Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, as well as a concert by world-renowned composer Omer Faruk Tekbilek, were highly appreciated by Hungarian art lovers.

Meanwhile, the friendly match between the national football teams of the two countries, which succeeded in qualifying for Euro 2024, at Puskas Arena added a different flavor to the Year of Culture.

Gulsen Karanis Eksioglu, Türkiye's Ambassador to Budapest, noted that Hungary will take over the Presidency of the European Union (EU) in July and said that they will focus on other regions of Hungary in the second half of the “2024 Turkish-Hungarian Year of Culture.”

In the Year of Culture calendar, major productions such as the Presidential Symphony Orchestra Concert, Murat IV Opera and Refik Anadol's digital exhibition will meet Hungarian music lovers.

In addition to events in the capital, Turkish artists will visit different cities such as Debrecen, Pecs, Györ, Zigetvar, Miskolc and Bugac.

The opening of the Year of Culture was held with the participation of President Erdogan

The 2024 Turkish-Hungarian Year of Culture was inaugurated on December 18, 2023 during the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Budapest with a gala event organized with the participation of then Hungarian President Katalin Novak and Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Within the scope of this visit, President Erdogan and Prime Minister Orban signed a political declaration, which envisaged upgrading the relations between the two countries from a “strategic partnership to an enhanced strategic partnership.”

The closing event of the year of culture is expected to take place in Türkiye at the end of the year.
