North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected the military satellite station.
Kim approved the next steps of the plan drawn up by the satellite launch preparation committee, a group dedicated to launching North Korea's first military intelligence satellite.
State media KCNA did not elaborate on when the launch will be scheduled.
According to information quoted by Reuters, Kim said the successful launch of the military reconnaissance satellite was "an urgent requirement of the country's current security environment".
Earlier this year, KCNA reported that Pyongyang had completed building its first military spy satellite, and Kim urged to speed up final preparations for launch.
38 North, a US-based North Korea monitoring project, reported this week, citing recent satellite imagery, that activity at the launch pad area at North Korea's Sohae Satellite Launch Station has resumed after a nearly six-month hiatus.
However, the 38 North report added that there is "a lot of work to be done" for an upcoming satellite launch.
