Turkish military operations eliminated dozens of terrorists in Iraq, Syria

In a press briefing at the Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB), Admiral Zeki Akturk, the Head of Press and Public Relations, emphasized that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) continue their fight against terrorism with increased effectiveness and intense pressure, tailored to the requirements of the field.

The MSB has announced that 54 terrorists have been neutralized in operations conducted in northern Iraq and Syria over the past week.

Akturk reported that a total of 802 terrorists have been neutralized, with 360 in Iraq and 442 in northern Syria since January 1st, including the latest operations.

He also highlighted the surrender of two PKK terrorists who fled from hiding areas in northern Iraq and turned themselves in at the Habur border post on April 21, emphasizing the use of world-class tech-intensive systems to protect the borders.

Preventing illegal crossings

Akturk further said that 284 individuals, including six members of terrorist organizations, were apprehended attempting to cross Turkish borders illegally this past week, with 2,291 individuals prevented from crossing altogether.

He noted that a total of 2,769 individuals have been captured attempting illegal border crossings since January 1st, with 48,596 prevented from crossing thus far.

Touching upon the recent visit of Defense Minister Yasar Guler to Romania, Akturk mentioned that discussions were held on bilateral and military relations, as well as NATO and regional security issues.

Contributions to regional and global peace

Highlighting Türkiye's contributions to regional and global peace through bilateral relations and international missions, Akturk mentioned the signing of military cooperation agreements during President Erdogan's visit to Iraq. These agreements aim to expand military training cooperation and enhance military relations.

Regarding the recent meeting between Turkish and Greek delegations on Confidence-Building Measures, Akturk noted the positive atmosphere and the agreement to hold the next meeting in Türkiye.

Call for peace amid Gaza conflict and remembrance of history

Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Akturk emphasized Türkiye's priority of achieving a permanent ceasefire and called for the international community to raise their voices against the killing and displacement of innocent Palestinians.

Additionally, he paid homage to the victims of the events of 1915, highlighting the importance of remembering the innocent Turks who were killed by Armenians.

Akturk also underscored the continuous efforts to enhance the effectiveness and deterrence of the Turkish Armed Forces through the development of indigenous defense industry products.

He also highlighted ongoing national and international training and exercise activities to maintain the highest level of readiness.

Upcoming military exercises and diplomatic engagements

Akturk mentioned commencement of the computer-assisted command post phase of the EFES-2024 exercise and upcoming NATO exercises in Albania and Spain.

He concluded by highlighting diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Japan, as well as the ongoing naval visit to Somalia, emphasizing Türkiye's commitment to supporting security and stability in the region.
