The Air Jordan XIII shoe worn by American basketball star Michael Jordan in the 1998 NBA finals has been put up for sale at Sotheby's auction house.

The shoe found a buyer for $2.2 million, making it the most expensive sneaker in history.

 The sneakers, which sold for a record price, were also among the most expensive items sold at auction.

"This record proves that the demand for Michael Jordan's sports memorabilia continues to exceed all expectations," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's executive.

HIS CLOTHES ARE SOLD FOR MILLION DOLLARS

The Nike Air Ships shoes Jordan wore in his first season with the Chicago Bulls in 1984 sold for a record $1.47 million at auction in Las Vegas in 2021.

A jersey worn by Jordan in the 1998 NBA finals sold for $10.1 million in 2022.

Having spent most of his career with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan became a global icon and raised the profile of the NBA worldwide.

Ending his career in 2003, Jordan also became the first billionaire player in NBA history.
