Russia bombs Ukrainian cities, violates Polish airspace

Kyiv experienced a surge of violence early Sunday, with multiple explosions rattling the city, as Russia escalated its air strikes.

Residents across Ukraine received an alert and were advised to remain in shelters because of the impending threat.

According to the BBC, the attack on the capital began at 5:00 a.m. local time. Head of Kyiv's military administration Serhiy Popko, stated: "About a dozen Russian missiles have been destroyed over the capital and its vicinity."

Despite the bombardment's intensity, no casualties or significant damage have been reported.

Lviv, near the Polish border, also faced a barrage of missiles and drone attacks. Lviv's Mayor Andriy Sadovyi shared on Telegram that the city itself was not hit, but the broader Lviv region was under attack, with around 20 missiles and seven attack drones targeting critical infrastructure.

The entire country of Ukraine had been placed under alert with the warning of cruise missiles from Russian strategic bombers. This attack follows the recent strikes on Friday that cut power to a million Ukrainians.

Adding to the regional tension, Poland confirmed a Russian cruise missile violated its airspace.

"The object entered Polish space near the town of Oserdow and stayed there for 39 seconds," reported the Polish armed forces, indicating the missile was under military radar observation during its flight.

Kyiv's residents were seen seeking refuge in metro stations amidst the bombardment.

This new wave of attacks comes as Moscow has yet to comment on Sunday's strikes.

In a separate incident, the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol in annexed Crimea, Mikhail Razvozhayev, claimed on Telegram that Russian forces shot down 10 Ukrainian missiles over the city late on Saturday, destroying an office building and a gas line, and a woman suffering a shrapnel injury.
