Microsoft Copilot currently provides GPT-4 Turbo for free

Microsoft's AI assistant Copilot has recently received a significant upgrade with the introduction of GPT-4 Turbo to its free tier.

This advanced OpenAI model, which powers Copilot's Pro tier, is now accessible to users of the free tier who switch Copilot to either Creative or Precise mode.

While subscribers to Copilot Pro still have default access to GPT-4 Turbo, Microsoft's advertising and web services CEO, Mikhail Parakhin, mentioned in a recent post that these users can opt for older models if they prefer.

GPT-4 Turbo, trained on data up to April 2023, offers enhanced capabilities such as text-to-speech prompts and a context window that can accommodate up to 128,000 tokens, the highest token capacity in a GPT version.

Tokens represent word fragments, and a higher token capacity allows users to input more text for better contextual results.

Microsoft initially launched Copilot to integrate AI functionalities across its platforms, including Windows 11, Bing, Microsoft 365  and the Edge browser.

The Copilot Pro tier, priced at $20 per month, provides additional AI-powered features in Office apps, priority access to new OpenAI models and improved image-creation tools.

The tech industry is witnessing a trend of incorporating generative AI into various products, triggered by the emergence of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot in late 2022.

Companies like Google and Samsung are exploring AI integration in their products, while Apple is gearing up for potential generative AI developments.

As OpenAI allows users to create specialized AI applications and enhances its AI chatbot offerings, speculations arise about the potential release of GPT-4.5 Turbo.

Microsoft's decision to offer GPT-4 Turbo in the free Copilot tier, alongside the premium tier, hints at a possible future upgrade to GPT-4.5 Turbo for Copilot Pro users, aligning with OpenAI's rumored advancements in AI technology.
