Türkiye issues sanctions warning to X as compliance deadline lapses

The deadline for X, formerly known as Twitter, to appoint a local representative in Türkiye has expired, sparking discussions on potential penalties, particularly bandwidth throttling.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu reiterated the situation's urgency, stating: "X still hasn't appointed a representative to Türkiye. This necessitates a legal regulation. Our discussions are ongoing. An advertising ban is currently in effect, and the bandwidth reduction is also on our agenda."

Minister Uraloglu addressed reporters during a reception at the Turkish Parliament. He warned that failure to establish representation could result in further sanctions against X, including bandwidth throttling.

In addition to regulatory matters, Uraloglu provided insights into the 'Development Path Project,' emphasizing recent strides in cooperation.

"We have recently reached a quadrilateral agreement, adding momentum to the project," he revealed.

This initiative, initially involving Iraq and Türkiye, now includes the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, promising significant contributions to financing, logistics, and operations.

Regarding the project's progress, Minister Uraloglu stated: "We will convene a ministerial summit within two months to discuss this critical phase."

He highlighted ongoing discussions at both technical and administrative levels, underscoring the importance of completing pending segments for the project's financial sustainability.
