Aselsan unveils indigenous AESA Aircraft Nose Radar, elevating Türkiye's combat capabilities

Aselsan, the leading defense technology firm in Türkiye, proudly unveiled its state-of-the-art AESA Aircraft Nose Radar technology on Tuesday. This groundbreaking achievement was developed entirely with domestic resources.

Marking a significant leap in combat aircraft capabilities, the AESA Aircraft Nose Radar recently completed its maiden flight alongside the F-16 OZGUR, promising to propel the platform into the realm of a 4.5-generation aircraft.

Additionally, the KAAN fighter jet and combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are set to advance to fifth-generation platforms with added capabilities and low-visibility features.

Preparations for the mass production of this cutting-edge radar have been finalized at Aselsan's technology hub in Ankara. This ensures flawless production from chip-level manufacturing to advanced integration processes.

AESA technology is not limited to integration with combat aircraft such as the F-16 OZGUR, HURJET, and KAAN.

Türkiye's AKINCI and ANKA-3 UAVs will also benefit from this innovation.

Expectations are high as the AESA Aircraft Nose Radar is slated to begin flights with the AKINCI and other Turkish UAVs, with initial flights anticipated to commence within the year.

Significant milestone

Haluk Gorgun, President of the Defense Industry Agency (SSB), expressed immense pride in bringing AESA radar technology to Türkiye.

The SSB, established by the government to manage Türkiye's defense industry and military technology supply, sees this achievement as a significant milestone.

Ahmet Akyol, Aselsan's CEO, emphasized AESA technology's versatility and highlighted its applications across the air, land and sea domains.

Akyol also stressed that Aselsan's indigenous development of AESA radar systems allows Türkiye to maintain full control over technology and data, ensuring the highest levels of security and capability.

The global AESA Nose Radar market for fighter aircraft is $5 billion annually.

Ongoing export negotiations position Aselsan Radars as a pivotal player in this market.

Vital capabilities for air vehicles

Aselsan's cutting-edge AESA radars are expected to increase market share in air defense, naval platforms, and surveillance radar domains, making their capabilities vital for air vehicles.

It offers automatic recognition, multi-target tracking, ground mapping, distance measurement, automatic altitude determination, under-cloud surveillance with SAR, automatic target limitation with AI-supported algorithms, broadband radar spectrum monitoring, directional electronic jamming and enhanced ammunition guidance.

The F-16 OZGUR Project, a national initiative to modernize the Turkish Air Force's F-16 Block 30 aircraft, continues to drive Türkiye's advancements in defense technology.
