The G7 leaders' summit began in Hiroshima under Japan's presidency.
US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Union (EU) Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are among the participants of the summit.
On the first day of the three-day summit, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, together with the G7 leaders, visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, where artifacts from the 1945 atomic bomb tragedy are on display.
After the visit, the leaders laid a wreath at the mausoleum built for the atomic bomb victims.
According to Reuters, the leaders will discuss "global security issues such as the Ukraine-Russia war, North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program, China's growing military presence in the region" as well as "global economy and technology".
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to make a surprise visit to Japan and attend the G7 Leaders Summit.
