The White House said on Tuesday it was still gathering information about reports that the US had struck Moscow. Washington also said it did not support strikes inside Russia and reiterated its focus on helping Ukraine reclaim its territory, Reuters reported.
"We saw the news and are still gathering information about what happened. As general matter, we do not support attacks inside of Russia," a White House spokesperson said in a statement.
"We are focused on providing Ukraine with the equipment and training they need to retake their own sovereign territory," the spokesperson said, pointing to Kyiv, which was hit by drones and missiles a total of 17 times in May.
On Tuesday, Russia said Ukrainian drones had struck Moscow. Russia claims the drones targeted areas where President Vladimir Putin and other Russian elites reside.
Two people were injured in the incidents, according to Moscow's mayor.
Putin said Tuesday's attack was an attempt to scare and provoke Russia, and that air defenses around the capital would be strengthened.
