On July 18, the fate of Travis King, a 23-year-old US soldier who crossed from South Korea into North Korea without permission, became clear. In a statement made by the United Nations Command (UNC), it was stated that the North Korean military was contacted about the whereabouts of Travis King and a statement was received from North Korea.

The statement said that North Korea confirmed that it had detained King. While it was stated that no detailed response could be received from North Korea for King's safe return to the US, no official statement has yet been made from North Korea regarding King's detention, Ihlas reported.

HE WAS IMPRISONED IN SOUTH KOREA

It was revealed that King, who crossed to the North Korean side during a tour in South Korea on July 18, had appeared before a judge in South Korea before crossing to North Korea.

King was tried in South Korea on charges of damaging public property and violence against a person in a nightclub.

It is still unclear exactly why King, who was released in South Korea on July 10, crossed into North Korea.
