North Cyprus could become Turkish Sea: Greek media

In the aftermath of the earthquake and forest fire disasters in Türkiye and Greece, the two countries extended a hand of friendship to each other and their relations have gained an unprecedented positive momentum in recent years. While this situation is on the agenda to start a new process in terms of the mutual interests of the two countries, the Greek press has made a provocative claim that the northern part of Cyprus could become a Turkish sea.

In.gr, one of the most widely read news websites in Greece, published an analysis of Türkiye’s naval bases with the title "Satellite images reveal naval bases threatening Greece and Cyprus".

‘TURKISH SEA’ CLAIM

In the news claiming that Türkiye's naval bases threaten Greece, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's statements were included.

"Turkish Erdogan appeared the other day: nostalgic for the Annan Plan, he declared his readiness to discuss a solution to the Cyprus problem, but based on the realities of both states. He clarified the issue of the demilitarization of the Aegean islands, claiming that he raised this issue during his last meeting with Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis," the news said.

"That's all we see. There are things we can't see, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Together they form a fully controlled Turkish sea in the north of Cyprus," it added.

‘IF CYPRUS FALLS, SO DOES ATHENS’

"Whether the islands are demilitarized or not, Türkiye wants to dominate the sea and threaten mainland Greece," In.gr claimed, adding that even if a compromise is reached in dialogue or an international court, Greece will be the loser.

"Athens fails to see that if Cyprus falls, it will fall too," the Greek news platform claimed.

"Cyprus, on the other hand, lives in the illusion that the Turkish threat has been appeased because there is talk of dialogue without any positive signs. Why is Cyprus' energy program not progressing as it should?' The answer: Because Türkiye gains from the shadow of its power, even if there is dialogue,” it emphasized.
