Russia hopes for establishment of Palestinian state after ceasefire: Lavrov

Speaking to the press after the meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Foreign Ministers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that he hoped that with the end of hostilities, Palestine and Israel would return to implementing United Nations (UN) resolutions.

"We hope that after the ceasefire, everyone will take seriously the obligation to implement the UN Security Council resolutions on the establishment of a Palestinian state," he said.

The foreign ministers of the CIS member states are also in favor of negotiations and a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine, Lavrov said, underlining that the ministers have a common position on the conflict in the region.

The Russian Foreign Minister said that the Israeli-Palestinian tension was discussed at the meeting and that all participants could agree on a common position in the name of a joint statement on the conflicts in the region.

"But I can say that everyone is on the same page. We agreed that this conflict must stop immediately and that international humanitarian law must be respected, that acts of terrorism, indiscriminate use of force must not be allowed, in which a large number of civilians on both sides suffer," he highlighted.

Making statements on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the main session of the Russian Energy Week in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that they have always advocated the implementation of the UNSC resolutions on the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

Pointing out that Israel's policy is one of the causes of the problem, Putin noted that the "settlement policy" implemented by the country for years on Palestine has ultimately led to such an explosion of violence.
