20 countries meet in Cairo to discuss two-state solution in Gaza

A summit is being organized in Egypt regarding the developments in Gaza. In order to prevent the conflict between Israel and Hamas from turning into a regional war, officials representing many countries from the Middle East and Europe are expected to participate in the summit.

CALL FOR TWO-STATE SOLUTION

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in his statement at the opening of the Cairo Summit, emphasized the illegality of the Israeli attacks.

"Hospitals and schools are being bombed. Places where civilians take shelter are being bombed. We are warning that there is a danger of displacement of our civilians. We do not accept this. From the first day, we wanted this to stop and a humanitarian corridor to be opened. The Israeli government did not allow this. Innocent civilians are being killed," Abbas said.

"We demand the release of hostages on both sides. The PLO is the only legitimate representative of Palestine. The only solution is to fulfill the two-state solution. To establish an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. I call for the fulfillment of the UN resolution," he added.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also addressed the needs of Palestinians and stated that the collective punishment of civilians is not legitimate.

"Gaza needs massive humanitarian aid. I call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. The only solution for a real peace is a two-state solution," Guterres said.

'EGYPT AGREES WITH USA'

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who took the floor at the summit, said that they had reached an agreement with the United States to keep the Rafah Border Crossing open permanently.

'WE WILL STAY ON OUR LAND'

Mahmoud Abbas said that the peace summit in Cairo took place at a time when Israel was violating all humanitarian laws by bombing schools, hospitals, and shelters, adding that both sides rejected the killing of civilians and called for the release of hostages.

'ISRAEL IMPRISONS 2 MILLION PEOPLE IN GAZA'

Speaking at the summit, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Palestinian suffering was being normalized and that Israel was imprisoning 2 thousand people in Gaza.

"Palestinian suffering is being normalized. Israel is imprisoning 2 thousand people in Gaza. This crisis could lead to wars of global proportions. A just solution must be found. Türkiye wants a cessation of hostilities and unconditional humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza," Fidan said.

"The situation in Palestine at the moment is a tragedy, it always has been, but now it is getting worse. We must be unconditional in our condemnation. It must be made clear to them that Israel's so-called victories will not provide security in the long term. Israel is using the security of some countries as a blank cheque," he added.

Fidan stated that military aid to Israel does nothing but deepen the occupation and reminded that the only solution in the region is the adoption of the two-state understanding.

"There must be a return to the two-state solution. An independent Palestinian state must be established. Moreover, there should be a guarantor mechanism. Türkiye is working for an honorable, just and secure future and thanks Egypt for this summit," the Turkish foreign minister said.

WHAT HAPPENED

Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, announced that they launched a comprehensive attack against Israel called "Al-Aqsa Flood" on the morning of October 7.

While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, armed groups entered the settlements in the region.

The Israeli army also launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes.

It was reported that 1405 Israelis, including 304 soldiers, were killed and 3 thousand 968 Israelis were wounded in the attacks from Gaza. The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 3 thousand 478 people died and more than 12 thousand people were injured in Gaza during the Israeli attacks.

In the occupied West Bank, it was stated that 66 Palestinians were killed and approximately 1300 people were injured in the attacks of Israeli forces and Jewish settlers.

The Israeli army hit Damascus and Aleppo airports. As the Middle East is once again turning into a bloodbath, a deadline has been set for nearly 2 and a half million Palestinians to leave the blockaded Gaza.

Most recently, Israel attacked the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, killing civilians.
