Israel's new secret weapon sponge bombs

British media reported that Israel plans to use "sponge bombs" specially designed to fight Hamas in its ground offensive against Gaza. It was reported that Israel blinded its own soldiers during the tests.

Israel will use novel “sponge bombs” as it fights through the network of Hamas tunnels under Gaza.

According to the British Telegraph newspaper, Israel will use new "sponge bombs" to fight Hamas tunnels under Gaza. While the Israel-Hamas war has been going on for 20 days, it is rumored that the Tel Aviv administration is preparing for a "crushing" ground attack to completely neutralize Hamas.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE GAZA METRO

According to numerous analyses published since the beginning of the conflict, the biggest challenge the Israeli army will face in a ground offensive in Gaza is the underground tunnels, the so-called "Gaza subway". Built by Hamas over the past fifteen years, the labyrinthine underground tunnels are used to store rockets and ammunition and allow Hamas members to move undetected.

The entrances to the tunnels are thought to be protected by traps. The possibility that approximately 200 people, including foreigners, who were taken hostage by Hamas in its attack on October 7 are being held in these tunnels makes it difficult for Israel to intervene.

ISRAEL TESTS SECRET WEAPON

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are testing chemical bombs that do not contain explosives but are used to seal gaps or tunnel entrances through which Hamas brigades can exit, according to the British newspaper Telegraph. According to the Telegraph, Israeli soldiers tested the sponge bomb by setting up a mock tunnel system at the Tze'Elim army base near the Gaza border during exercises in 2021.

SPONGE BOMB WORKING SYSTEM

It is a non-explosive device consisting of two separate liquid substances in a plastic container that rapidly expands and then hardens, creating a sudden foam explosion. When the metal rod separating the liquids inside the device is removed and thrown into the tunnel entrance, the liquids mix, expand rapidly, and harden, closing the tunnel entrance. The IDF did not comment on the use of the so-called "sponge bombs".

Specialized teams in IDF engineering units, and tunnel reconnaissance units, were deployed, grouped, and equipped with ground and air sensors, ground penetrating radar, and special drilling systems to locate the tunnels.

All soldiers entering the tunnels were given special equipment to see underground, while in the tunnels. Standard night vision goggles need an element of natural light to work effectively, but since all-natural light is blocked when moving underground, Israeli soldiers will rely on thermal technology to see in pitch darkness. In addition, new radios have been developed that are optimized to operate in the harsh conditions experienced underground.

ISRAELI SOLDIERS BLINDED WHILE USING

The Telegraph newspaper pointed out that the secret weapon brings with it some dangers, and wrote that some Israeli soldiers have lost their eyesight due to misuse of the mixture.

The newspaper wrote that Israel is trying to use robots and drones in the tunnels in order not to endanger its soldiers, noting that so far these vehicles have had difficulties in working underground.

WHAT HAPPENED

Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, announced that they launched a comprehensive attack against Israel called "Al-Aqsa Flood" on the morning of October 7.

While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, armed groups entered the settlements in the region. The Israeli army also launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that 6 thousand 546 people, including 1 thousand 873 children and 1 thousand 023 women, were killed and 14 thousand 245 injured in Israel's attacks on Gaza.

It was reported that 1 thousand 400 Israelis, including 306 soldiers, were killed and 5 thousand 132 Israelis were wounded in the attacks from Gaza.

The Israeli army hit Damascus and Aleppo airports. As the Middle East is once again turning into a bloodbath, a deadline has been set for nearly 2 and a half million Palestinians to leave the blockaded Gaza.

In the occupied West Bank, 90 Palestinians were reportedly killed in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers.

In Israel's attacks on Gaza, 18 journalists were killed.

In the clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border since October 8, 24 Hezbollah members and 4 civilians, one of whom was a journalist, were killed. Three Israeli soldiers and one Israeli civilian were killed in the attacks organized by Lebanon.

Most recently, Israel attacked the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, killing civilians.
