President Erdogan addresses rally in Tokat, vows to end 'traitorous ambitions'

Speaking to a crowd gathered in Tokat province, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of unity in preserving the integrity of the nation against what he described as "traitorous ambitions" aimed at undermining the state. The rally, held in anticipation of the upcoming local elections on March 31, saw Erdogan rally support for his party's candidates.

"Let us together, God willing, put an end to the treacherous ambitions set upon our state's foundations on March 31. Tokat will do what is right for itself," Erdogan said confidently.

Addressing the audience, Erdogan highlighted the broader significance of the local elections, stating, "Remember, the outcomes will not only determine Tokat's local leaders, but your choices at the ballot box will also send a significant message to all of Türkiye and the entire world."

Urging support from Tokat citizens residing in Istanbul, Erdogan said, "Given Istanbul's large population, I urge all citizens from Tokat residing in Istanbul to reach out to one another," in support of his party's Istanbul mayoral candidate Murat Kurum.

'Türkiye's already tripled growth will double in next 20 years'

Erdogan also took the opportunity to assert Türkiye's economic growth, stating, "Those uncomfortable with Türkiye's tripled growth in a year are lying in wait. Those who cannot tolerate Türkiye's advancement to the forefront of advanced democracy through its freedom reforms are lying in wait, my friends."

Regarding the opposition in Türkiye, Erdogan lamented the lack of effective checks and balances, stating, "I am most disappointed by the state of the opposition in our country. In democracies, the opposition is crucial as it oversees the government and provides an alternative. Türkiye does not have an opposition that is preparing for power or fulfilling its oversight duties."

Erdogan then quoted Tokatli Nuri, a poet from 150 years ago, to illustrate his point about the responsibilities of governance and service. "Service is crucial in both politics and work; it cannot be accomplished through empty rhetoric alone," he said.

Taking aim at the main opposition party, Erdogan stated, "Things do not work with words alone, as the CHP (Republican People's Party) believes. We have set out to hold rallies in at least 50 cities."

Speaking about ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, Erdogan assured the audience, "While trying every way and method to end the terrorism issue, we have seen their dimensions. It is understandable for militants of organizations to get involved in politics, municipalities, and bureaucracy."

Erdogan concluded his speech with a pledge to continue Türkiye's progress, promising, "With the support of our nation, we will win in Istanbul and Ankara once again. We will accelerate Türkiye's journey of the century."

The president also announced plans to celebrate a National Will Day on March 31, just before the beginning of Ramadan Bayram.

More than TL 96 million invested in Tokat

President Erdogan further detailed the progress and investments made in Tokat, highlighting new educational facilities, expanded universities, sports infrastructure, health care improvements, housing projects, and the development of tourism centers. He also emphasized the government's efforts to support workers and retirees through wage increases and other measures, such as increased bank bonuses for retirees.

Erdogan assured the crowd that Türkiye's economy was on a positive trajectory, with inflation expected to decrease in the second half of the year. He also announced plans for substantial investments, including Tokat-specific projects aimed at enhancing the region's appeal as a tourist destination.

Looking ahead to the local elections on March 31, Erdogan expressed confidence that the joint efforts of local officials would elevate Tokat and other provinces to new heights.

As the rally concluded, President Erdogan called for unity and solidarity among the Turkish people, urging them to stand together against any opposition. He promised to continue working tirelessly until Türkiye achieves its ambitious goals for the future.
