'Israel is not only killing Palestinians but also truth itself,' Communications Director Altun says in the United Kingdom Relations Panel

Communications Director Altun condemns Israel's attacks on Palestinians

According to a statement from the Presidential Communications Directorate, a Türkiye-United Kingdom Relations Panel was held at the Turkish Embassy in London. The panel discussed the evolving dynamics of Türkiye and the U.K.'s relations post-Brexit. Numerous academics, representatives from think tanks, journalists, and businesspeople participated in the panel.

Communications Director Fahrettin Altun addressed the participants with a video message at the opening of the panel, saying that the world is going through a dark whirlpool and faces various trials and tribulations.

Negotiation, instead of war

He highlighted the recent Ukraine-Russia war as one of these crises, emphasizing Türkiye's call for restraint to the parties involved.

Altun stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through negotiation rather than war, saying, "We have always advocated for conflicts to be resolved not by war but through negotiation, under the motto that an honorable peace will have no losers. The Ukraine-Russia war also had global consequences, such as a food crisis. With the Grain Corridor Agreement, we prevented the world from experiencing a food crisis."

Altun also highlighted Israel's conflict with Palestine, which is escalating into a crisis with far-reaching repercussions for the global community. He noted that Israel's ongoing oppression has now reached a stage where hunger has been used as a weapon for the past six months, preventing even healthy humanitarian aid from reaching the region.

Racism, discrimination and Islamophobia are all on the rise

Highlighting the increasing problems faced by Muslims, such as racism, discrimination, and Islamophobia, Altun remarked, "Especially in Western countries, racism and xenophobia have been on the rise in recent years, leading states to become increasingly closed off. The rise of protectionism globally deprives thousands of people in need of the most basic humanitarian aid.

We, as Türkiye, are against all forms of racism and discrimination. We are one of the countries that has dealt with the refugee crisis and emerged as a leader. The world must face this reality. However, a lasting solution to the refugee crisis requires a global effort built on the principle of equitable distribution of resources."

Discrimination as most dangerous epidemic

Altun raised serious concerns about disinformation, calling it a pervasive threat that exacerbates existing problems. He emphasized that it has become the most dangerous epidemic that corrupts societies and institutions.

Altun said that they see disinformation not only as a national but also a global problem:

"That is why we do not hesitate to expose disinformation activities in regional conflicts. We also fight against the systematic disinformation campaigns used by Israel to cover up its brutal attacks. Because Israel is not only killing Palestinians but also truth itself. Defending Palestinians and truth is, in a sense, defending human dignity."

Additionally, the Presidential Communications Directorate organized a "Türkiye Century Exhibition" at the London Yunus Emre Institute, reflecting Türkiye's natural and historical beauties. Furthermore, within the scope of the Ramadan Tent Project held annually in the U.K. since 2011, an iftar program will be organized at London's Trafalgar Square.
