President Erdogan meets Palestinian leader Haniyeh in Istanbul

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Palestinian resistance leader Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul on Saturday.

This meeting follows a prior discussion between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Haniyeh in Doha on Wednesday, focusing on the recent conflict in Gaza, as reported by diplomatic sources.

The two sides are expected to discuss critical issues such as the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, cease-fire efforts and the urgent need for humanitarian aid in the region.

Despite the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) provisional ruling, Israel persists in its military actions in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian health authorities report that since Oct. 7, at least 34,049 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed, and 76,901 injured.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the ICJ, with an interim ruling in January mandating a halt to genocidal acts and the provision of humanitarian assistance to Gaza civilians.
