Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh praised Türkiye's ongoing support for Palestine, citing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent speech at the United Nations and his "one minute" protest during the 2009 Davos Summit.

"President Erdogan's speech at the UN and his 'one minute' stand in Davos... all these demonstrate the solidarity of the Turkish people with the Palestinian people," Haniyeh stated. "We are aware of how the Turkish people and state assist us on international platforms. We do not forget the 10 Turkish citizens martyred in the Mavi Marmara incident. They were martyred for the lifting of the blockade in Gaza."

Haniyeh added, "Türkiye's support for Jerusalem should continue."

A Hamas delegation that involved the head of the group Ismail Haniyeh met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday in Istanbul.

The delegation, which includes Khaled Meshaal, the head of Hamas' International Relations Bureau, engaged in discussions with President Erdogan and other high-ranking state officials, in a visit that is a clear sign of the importance that the Hamas delegation places on the summit with Türkiye.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan discussed efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and reach a fair and lasting peace in the region during a meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

"Erdogan stressed that Israel should not benefit from the developments (between Iran and Israel) and that it is important to make efforts that will draw attention to Gaza again," the Turkish officials stated.

Erdogan has called Hamas a "liberation movement" while slamming the West for what he calls its unconditional support of Israel. Ankara has also imposed trade restrictions on Israel.
