Fenerbahce capture second EuroLeague Women crown

Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding's women's basketball team triumphed over French contenders Villeneuve d'Ascq LM with a commanding 106-73 victory, clinching their second consecutive EuroLeague Women's title.

The final took place in Mersin at the Servet Tazegul Sports Hall and once again proved Fenerbahce's tactical prowess and athletic excellence.

Napheesa Collier led the scoring with 33 points, supported by Emma Meesseman with 22 points, both playing crucial roles in building and maintaining a robust lead.

Kayla McBride, who contributed 17 points, received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the Final Four. Her performance was a critical factor in Fenerbahce's success throughout the tournament.

This win marks a historic milestone, establishing Fenerbahce as the first women's Turkish team to win back-to-back EuroLeague titles.

Fenerbahce quickly took control during the game, ending the first quarter slightly ahead at 28-27. They then surged ahead in the second quarter, with Meesseman leading a 9-0 run, which allowed them to finish the first half 13 points ahead. They sustained this lead into the second half, finishing the game with a 33-point margin.

Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other dignitaries, including the Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus, congratulated the team and praised Fenerbahce for its exceptional performance and for making the nation proud.

Reflecting on the significance of their victory, team captain Alperi Onar remarked, "We have always found a way to win together. If these victories inspire young girls, then that adds an extra value to these trophies."

This European success follows Fenerbahce's win in the FIBA Super Cup at the start of the season, another pioneering achievement for a Turkish women's team.

As Fenerbahce celebrates its continued success in Europe, it is also gearing up for the Turkish Women's Basketball Super League Play-Off finals. It is currently leading the series against CBK Mersin 2-0.
