Ceremony near Arc de Triomphe monument in French capital sees presence of world leaders

Paris: Erdogan joins WWI Armistice Day centenary event

Turkey's president on Sunday participated in a ceremony held to mark the centenary of the end of World War I near Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron met their Turkish counterparts Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emine Erdogan at Elysee Palace.

Around 47 heads of states, 23 governments' heads and 15 international institutions' chairs walked towards Arc de Triomphe and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located at the base of the arc on the famous Champs-Elysees Avenue.

Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a brief chat following the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the world leaders and their spouses participated in the lunch hosted by Macron and his wife.

Erdogan is accompanied by his wife, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin during his visit to Paris.
