Millions of vaccines will be destroyed in Bulgaria
Bulgaria, which stockpiles during the peak of the coronavirus epidemic, is in trouble with vaccines. In the statement made by the Ministry of Health, it was reported that 2 million doses of vaccine were destroyed before, and 2.8 million more vaccines, which are about to expire, will be destroyed. On the other hand, Bulgaria has to import 8 million more vaccines by the end of this year, according to the contract.
The coronavirus, which broke out in the world in 2019 and caused the death of millions of people, has decreased in recent months. The measures and vaccines taken in the fight against the virus, which also appeared in strong variants such as Omicron, were effective and the spread was prevented. Bulgaria, which is among the countries with the lowest vaccination rate in the European Union (EU), is in trouble with stockpiled vaccines.
2.8 MILLION VACCINES TO BE DESTROYED
The Bulgarian Ministry of Health stated that the destruction of the remaining Covid-19 vaccines, which are about to expire due to lack of demand, is inevitable.
Health Minister Asen Mecidiev stated that they closed the vaccination units in the main hospitals in the country, which almost no one visits anymore, due to the intensity of the epidemic, and said, "The interest in vaccination is zero. We have to destroy 2.8 million vaccines, which are about to expire."
Mecidiev stated that after the destruction of 2 million doses of vaccine, which expired last year, 2 million 800 thousand doses of vaccine are about to expire this year.
8 MILLION MORE VACCINES HAVE TO IMPORT
In the statement of the Ministry of Health, it was stated that Bulgaria had to import 8 million more vaccines until the end of this year, depending on the coordinated struggle policy of the European Union (EU) during the intense period of the Covid-19 epidemic, and some of this contracted import was paid in advance.
Minister Mecidiev stated that this import is an unnecessary expense and said that the mandatory destruction of these ineffective vaccines against new versions of Covid-19 will be an inevitable additional expense.
39 THOUSAND PEOPLE LOSE LIVES
Mecidiev also stated that they reported the problem to the EU Commission in all seriousness, but there was still no response from there. Bulgaria is among the countries with the lowest vaccination rate against Kovid-19 in the EU. About 39 thousand people died in the epidemic in the country.
