Plane crashes at Sudan airport, killing 9

A plane crashed in Sudan's coastal city of Port Sudan on Sunday due to a technical malfunction. Nine people, including four military personnel, lost their lives. One child survived the crash.

Port Sudan, in the Red Sea state on the east coast of the country, is a city under the control of the army, which was affected by the civil war that broke out 100 days ago between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Port Sudan airport is the only working airport in the country. It has therefore become a vital transit point for foreign aid coming into the country.

Due to the war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, a ceasefire is regularly declared with the mediation of Saudi Arabia and the US, but it is constantly violated. Aid continues to flow into the country from different countries.

According to one estimate, at least 3,000 people have been killed across the country since the war began.
