France denies alleged deployment of 2,000 troops to Ukraine

In response to assertions made by the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), France has vehemently denied any plans to send troops to Ukraine, labeling the claims as part of Russia's ongoing disinformation campaign.

According to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, comments made by Sergey Naryshkin, the head of SVR, are viewed as "indicative of Russia's systematic use of mass disinformation tactics."

In an interview with Russia's state news agency TASS, Naryshkin alleged that France is preparing a contingent of 2,000 troops for deployment to Ukraine.

"The contingent for sending to Ukraine is already being prepared. At the initial stage, it will amount to about 2,000 people," Naryshkin claimed.

'Macron will have to reveal the ugly truth'

Furthermore, Naryshkin suggested that French President Emmanuel Macron is concealing the true extent of French military involvement in Ukraine, purportedly out of fear of sparking mass protests in France.

"Sooner or later, Macron will have to reveal the ugly truth, but he will strive to delay the confessions as much as possible," Naryshkin remarked.

However, Macron's office has firmly refuted these allegations. Last month, Macron did not entirely dismiss the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine, but such an idea was ultimately rejected by France's allies.

Macron's administration has emphasized France's commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine and has reiterated its support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As tensions persist between Russia and Ukraine, with ongoing concerns about Russian military aggression in the region, the latest claims from Russian intelligence further complicate diplomatic efforts to deescalate the situation.

France's denial underscores the importance of verifying information amidst a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions.
