US drops 80 packages of humanitarian aid in northern Gaza

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that C-17s successfully airdropped over 50,600 meals, equivalent to 80 packages of humanitarian aid, to the northern region of Gaza.

In a statement released on CENTCOM's X account, it was mentioned that an operation to airdrop humanitarian aid via military C-17 cargo planes was conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. local time to meet the basic needs of civilians in Gaza.

"During today's mission, of the 80 bundles delivered, the parachutes on five aid bundles did not deploy after they were released from the aircraft. These five bundles landed in a non-populated area and caused no damage. US Central Command continues to monitor the situation," the statement added.

US will continue its aerial humanitarian aid efforts

The operation successfully delivered 80 humanitarian aid packages, amounting to over 50,600 meals, to Gaza from the air, with no reported issues despite five packages experiencing parachute malfunctions.

Highlighting the broader efforts, the Department of Defense (DOD) emphasized that these airdrops contribute significantly to ongoing initiatives by the U.S. and partner-nation governments aimed at alleviating human suffering.

"These airdrops are part of a sustained effort, and we continue to plan follow-on aerial deliveries," the DOD noted.

On March 17, CENTCOM announced the airdrop of 28,800 meals and 34,500 half-liter bottles of water to the northern Gaza Strip.
