Russia stresses the imperative for the swift implementation of the U.N. Security Council resolution regarding the cease-fire in Gaza, warning of potential repercussions for violations

Russia urges 'urgent' compliance with UN cease-fire resolution for Gaza

Russia has reiterated its call for the swift implementation of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution passed last month, which demands a cease-fire in Gaza.

Speaking on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized the binding nature of U.N. Security Council resolutions for all member states, including Resolution 2728 adopted on March 25.

"Russia continues to insist on the imperative for urgent implementation of the aforementioned decision of the Security Council," Zakharova stressed.

Russia criticizes U.S. labeling of UN Resolution as "non-binding"

She expressed criticism toward U.S. representatives on the Security Council, who have labeled some provisions of the resolution as "non-binding."

Zakharova suggested that such actions indicate a desire by the U.S. and "the collective West" to dictate terms while reserving the right to choose whether to adhere to them.

Zakharova warns of consequences for violating international laws

Moreover, Zakharova pointedly referenced recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s diplomatic mission in Damascus, Syria, which resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals.

She highlighted these actions as apparent violations of diplomatic and consular immunity, cautioning that such breaches could lead to more stringent measures, both from the Security Council and international judicial bodies.

"I would like to remind you that gross systematic violation of council resolutions, as well as the norms of international humanitarian law, may become the basis for more decisive measures, both by the Security Council and international judicial authorities. We will keep an eye on developments," Zakharova warned.

In reaffirming Russia's stance on the importance of adhering to international agreements, particularly regarding conflict zones like Gaza, Zakharova's remarks underscore the escalating tensions and the need for swift diplomatic action to prevent further violence.
