Türkiye important partner for EU, Netherlands, says Dutch Prime Minister

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte made essential statements in Brussels Monday, where he attended EUCO meetings.

In his statement, the Dutch Prime Minister stated that the European Union and Türkiye's relations will be on the European Council's agenda.

Rutte underlined that Türkiye is a crucial geopolitical actor in the region and beyond.

In his statement, Rutte emphasized that Türkiye, as a NATO ally, is a partner of the EU in many areas, especially in the fight against terrorism, security, climate change, energy and migration.

Stating that it is important for the EU and the Netherlands to maintain their relations with Türkiye, Rutte said it would be useful to consider what steps should be taken to strengthen ties with Türkiye.

Iran-Israel tension

Rutte said in his statement that Iran's "reckless" attacks against Israel will also be discussed at the European Council.

The Dutch Prime Minister stated the EUCO will investigate what steps to take to ensure that Iran and Iran-affiliated groups refrain from further hostile actions against Israel, underlining the need to reduce tensions in the region.

Russia's attacks on Ukraine

EUCO's other agenda will be the Russia-Ukraine war.

Stating that Russia targets Ukrainian cities and especially their energy infrastructure with missile and drone attacks, Rutte thinks Ukraine needs more economic and military support – especially air defenses.

The Dutch prime minister who thinks that a strong European economy will provide a stronger geopolitical position and reduce dependence on third parties, stated that this issue will also be discussed in the EUCO to increase growth in the EU.
