Elon Musk criticizes Australia for censorship of post on X

Elon Musk, CEO of X, indicated that X represents "freedom of expression and truth" while other social media platforms represent "censorship."

Musk criticized Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday after a court ordered X to take down footage of a claimed terrorist attack in Sydney and said the ruling meant any state could control "the entire internet."

The Australian Federal Court ordered X to temporarily hide posts showing footage of an incident from a week ago where a teenager was accused of terrorism for stabbing a priest and others.

X said that it had just hidden the posts from Australian users; however, the Australian e-Safety Commissioner insisted that the content should be removed due to its depiction of explicit violence.

"Does the PM think he should have jurisdiction over all of Earth?" Musk wrote in a tweet, referring to Albanese.

Musk additionally wrote: "If ANY country is allowed to censor content for ALL countries, which is what Australia's 'e-Safety Commissioner' is asking for, then what can stop any country from controlling the entire Internet?"

In reply to Musk, Albanese stated he would do whatever it takes to overcome the arrogance of this billionaire who thinks he is "above the law but also common decency."
