The Far Right Must Confronted: Brazilian President Lula

According to news in Brazilian media, Brazilian President Lula da Silva is set to engage in discussions with several leaders during the United Nations General Assembly regarding a surge of the extreme right.

The Brazilian president emphasized that he would convene with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and French President Emmanuel Macron, noting that he has offered this initiative to them.

He stressed that the rise of extreme right-wing ideologies is a topic of global concern, pointing to increasing trends of racism and xenophobia.

Reflecting on the events of the capitol riots in both Brazil and the U.S,, the Brazilian head of state emphasized, "Democratic leaders must collaborate to counter the growth of the extreme right and combat the proliferation of misinformation. We must join forces and strategize on how to effectively address this challenge."

On January 8, 2023, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro breached police barriers and stormed the National Congress Building, chanting slogans advocating for military intervention.
