Argentinians protest Milei's education funding cuts

Argentines organized a significant protest in Buenos Aires on Tuesday to express their opposition to President Javier Milei's radical austerity measures on public universities.

These actions received support from university professors, union officials, and opposition political parties. They were regarded as the largest protests in Argentina since Milei assumed office.

The University of Buenos Aires asserted that the number of participants in the protests in the capital alone exceeded 500,000.

During his election campaign, Milei pledged to implement a severe and drastic reduction in public spending, which he symbolized by holding an electric saw.

The president of Argentina, who follows a right-wing political ideology, is taking measures to address the country's economic issues by shutting down ministries, selling off cultural and sports centers, and reducing subsidies.

On Monday, he stressed that Argentina, which experienced a fiscal surplus in the first three months of the year for the first time since 2008, would maintain its current policies. Milei stated that despite facing opposition from most political, union, media, and economic entities, they successfully achieved the seemingly impossible.
