Blinken calls for trade competition with China on equal terms

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who made official visits to China, called for "equal terms" for U.S. companies in China.

Blinken visited China to support the stabilization of relations between Washington and Beijing and urged China to treat U.S. companies fairly.

Blinken met with Chen Jining, the Shanghai secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, on Thursday. The U.S. and China have been trying to resolve their differences on problems such as Russia, Taiwan, and trade for some time.

Matthew Miller, Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, said Blinken stated worries about China's "trade policies and non-market economic practices" and reiterated the want for "equal terms for American workers and companies operating in China."

Chen emphasized that "the choice between cooperation or conflict will affect the well-being of both peoples, both countries and the future of humanity."

Before Blinken's visit to Beijing, the U.S. accepted a decision to provide $8 billion in aid to Taiwan, which drew China's reaction. 

In addition, the U.S. is preparing to ban TikTok, a China-based company. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin blamed the U.S. for behaving irresponsibly.
