Dauphine University cancels lecture on genocide threat in Gaza

Dauphine University in Paris has canceled a lecture titled "Responding to the Threat of Genocide in Gaza" by Rima Hassan, a Palestinian candidate for European Parliament (EP) elections.

In France, Dauphine University blocked the conference of Hassan, nominated for E.P. elections to be held on June 6-9 by the opposition party La France Insoumise (L.F.I.), under the title "Response to the Genocide Threat in Gaza."

Hassan expressed her disappointment at the decision to cancel the conference on the grounds of "disturbing public order." She explained that the conference was planned at the invitation of university students and was intended for student participation only. Hassan criticized the decision as the result of "excessive pressure" from the Rector of Paris Dauphine University.

Hassan, known for her support for Palestine, has faced further challenges, including being summoned to testify for allegedly "propagating terrorism."

Not the first cancellation

This is not the first such cancellation. Previously, a conference on Palestine at the University of Lille, in which Hassan and L.F.I. leader Jean-Luc Melenchon were expected to participate, was canceled by the university administration. Similarly, in the same city, the prefecture banned Hassan from attending another Palestinian-themed event.
