Russia warns against US nuclear presence in Poland

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned that U.S. nuclear weapons stationed in Poland could become a target for Russia in the event of a conflict with NATO.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Moscow, Zakharova touched on several pressing issues, including Poland's willingness to host American nuclear weapons, which she described as "provocative."

She warned that the deployment of American weapons in Poland would put the country on the list of targets for immediate destruction in the event of a direct conflict with NATO.

Backlash against Switzerland

Zakharova also criticized Switzerland's decision to freeze over $14 billion of Russian assets, calling it illegal and a violation of international law. Zakharova emphasized that such actions constitute theft and piracy and warned that Russia will respond to Switzerland with reciprocal measures.

"In fact, the debate should not revolve around asset freezes, but around theft, extortion and banditry. Any effort to encroach on the property rights and interests of our nation is outright theft. In accordance with the principle of reciprocity in international relations, we retaliate against any hostile action from countries, including Switzerland," she said.

Zakharova noted that Russia is actively developing strategies to address Switzerland's actions and emphasized Russia's capacity to implement political and economic measures in response.

On the western approach to the South Caucasus, Zakharova said: "Some western countries are deliberately intervening in this region not to promote peace but to sow instability. This deliberate interference disrupts the balance of power in the region and, more importantly, undermines efforts for peaceful settlement and coexistence."

On Azerbaijan-Armenia dispute

With regard to the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from the Karabakh region, Zakharova emphasized that the trilateral agreements between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will remain binding. "None of the parties involved has officially rejected these agreements," Zakharova said.

Zakharova emphasized the need for diplomatic and political approaches and expressed readiness to assist Azerbaijan and Armenia in their future border demarcation efforts.

On the other hand, referring to Armenia's recent rhetoric, she criticized the Armenian government's disdain for the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), calling it "unfortunate" and "baseless."

NATO escalates tensions

Regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula, Zakharova showed skepticism, arguing that it could prolong the conflict instead of resolving it. Zakharova also criticized NATO's military support to Ukraine, arguing that it only serves to escalate tensions in the region.
