Denmark increases its military aid to Ukraine by $633 million
The Danish Defense Ministry announced that Danish parliament has agreed to provide additional military support of $633 million to Ukraine this year
According to the Danish Defence Ministry, the Danish Parliament approved an increase in aid on Thursday, as the country's political parties reached a consensus that Ukraine requires additional substantial military assistance this year.
Denmark will allocate over $2 billion in aid to Ukraine this year using the extra funds.
According to the Danish Army, the Danish government intends to allocate around $9.3 billion for the purpose of defending Ukraine against a potential Russian invasion from 2023 to 2028.
"From the start of the war, Denmark has been one of the most active donor countries. We must continue to be so, and that is why I am delighted that a broad majority of the parties in the Folketing (Danish Parliament) support us adding another $633 million to the Ukraine Fund," Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.
"It is absolutely crucial that we show the Ukrainians that we stand behind them in the current serious situation," he added.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Denmark in a statement he made on X (formerly Twitter).
"We appreciate Denmark's willingness to respond to the urgent needs of Ukrainian defenders and share the strategic vision that the stronger Ukraine is, the stronger all of Europe will be," he said on X.
