US' Blinken discusses peace talks with Azerbaijan, Armenia

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held telephone conversations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian. During the conversation, Blinken discussed peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed U.S. support for the processes underway between Baku and Yerevan to establish lasting peace.

Blinken also emphasized his desire to improve bilateral relations between the U.S. and Azerbaijan during his meeting with Aliyev.

Noting the U.S. willingness to cooperate with Azerbaijan on energy, climate and connectivity goals, Blinken hoped for the successful outcome of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Azerbaijan this year.

In a telephone conversation with Pashinian, Blinken reiterated U.S. support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on April 19 that the border demarcation process would be implemented on the basis of the Almaty Declaration signed in 1991.
